  • Structural Engineering Excellence (SEE) Awards

Background: The Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC), is respected as an authoritative leader in the practice of structural and earthquake engineering. SEAOC, through its members, seeks to advance the state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice of structural engineering; provide the public with safe and robust structures; disseminate relevant information and tools to the structural engineering profession for structural analysis and design. The Association strives to educate members in effective business management and serve as a respected and proactive voice in structural code and standard development processes. These lofty goals can only be accomplished through the actions of SEAOC members, usually through project work. Exemplary stewards of the SEAOC vision deserve recognition when exemplifying outstanding engineering.

Program: The Excellence in Structural Engineering (EiSE) Awards Program is an annual event that celebrates SEAOC Members and their significant structural engineering achievement. The program is designed to consider only the best work submitted from each MO by limiting the EiSE pool to regional AWARD OF EXCELLENCE winners. This award ceremony is the main opportunity for SEAOC to recognize the successful work of regional members as a statewide organization.

Call for Entries: To this end, SEAOC and its Member Organizations hereby announce this Call for Entries and encourage California-based Design Teams to submit eligible projects for consideration in the Annual EiSE Awards Program. Entrants will submit projects through SEAONC, SEAOSC, SEAOCC or SEAOSD, as appropriate for the project location and MO affiliation. The MO Awards will be recognized as part of the MO end of the year monthly meeting and Awards ceremony. Projects receiving an AWARD OF EXCELLENCE at the regional MO level will automatically be entered in the SEAOC Awards Excellence in Structural Engineering awards program at the annual SEAOC Convention. Note that the SEAOC EiSE Awards follow three refined categories described below, which will be populated by Awards of Excellence at the MO level.

Submission Material - We have streamlined the amount of application materials this year, requiring 1) entry forms and fee, 2) a digital image of a presentation board, and 3) high resolution images off the project. The project abstract is now part of the entry form, which includes questions directly aimed at highlighting the project’s engineering. See Entry Instructions further down.

Entry Information - The rules and regulations for the annual awards program can be obtained by downloading the file listed below.  The awards program announcement letter and entry package files are updated annually in February, therefore, entries will not be accepted prior to the files being updated for that year's awards program. Award entries shall be submitted by a designated Award Entrant who represents the Firm responsible for the project; and/or the Engineer of Record, the Engineer in Responsible Charge, or Principal Investigator.
