Engineers typically focus on solving technical problems. However, policy and legislation can greatly affect our profession as well as local and state building requirements and related enforcement. In this light, SEAOSC has reestablished the Legislative Action Committee.
The committee’s charge includes engaging with policy makers and legislators within SEAOSC’s region to review the policy and legislation and coordinate input with other SEAOSC committees regarding issues within their scope. This includes identifying the issue, its scope, and whether it affects licensure, jurisdiction authority, or statewide seismic or resilience policy or legislation. Additionally, the committee will work to proactively develop policy positions that advocate for structural engineers and a more resilient built environment, as well as develop and maintain relationships with policymakers and their staff.
The committee will meet on the fourth Thursday at 4:30pm of every month beginning in October 2021. All levels of experience and interest are welcome to join. Come add your voice to better influence and shape policy so it more positively affects our profession, industry, and communities! Simply email legislative@seaosc.org to express your interest.
