New SEAOC Blue Book

The SEAOC Seismology Committee recently completed the 9th edition of the SEAOC Blue Book, which commemorates the 60th anniversary of the first Blue Book. The 9th edition represents a major update to the previous edition, published in 2009. Copies of the Blue Book were distributed to SEAOC Convention attendees in August, and free copies will be made available to all SEAOC members.  

This presentation will include two parts. The first part of the presentation will provide an overview of the Blue Book, including its historical context and modern role. The second part will provide a case study on the concrete collectors article. This example illustrates how the new Blue Book can be used to navigate and understand contemporary code provisions.

Ben Mohr has over ten years of structural engineering experience, including both retrofit and new design. His portfolio includes historically significant structures, aviation, and sports facilities. 

Ben holds graduate degrees in both Architecture and Structural Engineering. His projects have won multiple awards at the local, state, and national level. He recently served as SEAOC Seismology Chair, and as project manager for the 2019 SEAOC Blue Book. He currently serves as a Director for the SEAONC Board.
