Ways to Get Involved

We are still looking for members to fill the following positions (please email me or Cheng if you are interested): 

  1. Field Trip Coordinator: Set up and organize a few field trips per year. Field trips include job site visits, manufacturing facilities, cities, anything interesting etc.     
  2. Younger Member Liaisons to other SEAOSC Committees: Be a member of another SEAOSC committee and report back to the YMC about what is going on so that we can all stay informed. Committees still in need of liaisons include:
  • Education
  • Codes & Standards
  • Seismology & Hazards
  • Concrete
  • Wood
  • Sustainability/Resilience
  • Disaster Emergency Services
  • Legislative & Professional Practices

2020 PSWC Timber Strong Design Build Competition
When: April 4th from 7am-4pm
Where: Cal State Fullerton (800 N State College Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92831)

What: The PSWC Timber Strong Design Competition will have 3 heats of construction consisting of 6 teams at a time. Volunteers would act as safety officials to ensure the students builders are being safe and practicing proper construction techniques. Volunteers will need to do a small ladder safety training to familiarize themselves with the construction aspect of the competition. 

How to Sign Up: Please contact Keslyn if you are interested and then she will follow up with a liability form you will need to fill out. 

International Science and Engineering Fair
When: May 7-15th
Where: Anaheim Convention Center (800 W Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA 92802)

What: Every year, millions of students participate in science fairs around the globe but only about 1,800 earn the right to compete for nearly $5 million dollars’ worth of awards bestowed each May at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). There are so many volunteer options at this huge event.

How to Sign Up: Go to the website to sign up for a volunteering slot and see the attached pdf describing the different volunteer options.

LBUSD 25th Annual Science and Engineering Fair
When: Saturday, May 16 from 8:45am-12pm
Where: Cabrillo High School (2001 Santa Fe Ave, Long Beach, CA 90810)

What: Reviewing middle school and high school student science fair projects. There will be a reviewer training breakfast from 8:45-9:45am. Reviewers will be assigned to a section and will walk around from 9:45-12pm talking to students about their projects. 

How to Sign Up: See attached volunteer form. Please fill it out and send it back to Keslyn if you are interested.
