with Bonnie Barcellos, HR Manager, Magnusson Klemencic Associates and Maryanne Wachter, PE, Professional Engineer


This presentation will review the latest survey findings and highlight the work being done by the NCSEA SE3 committee. Using the 2020 SE3 survey data, recent AEC survey data, and additional data points from surveys & conversations occurring in the industry, attendees will gain an understanding of the current recruitment and retention challenges facing the profession as well as actionable information to help improve both their firms and the profession as a whole.


About the Speakers:

Bonnie Barcellos leads the Human Resources team at the structural and civil engineering firm Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA). She has been an HR professional for over 16 years, including five years at MKA, and started her career in the architecture industry in New York. Bonnie handles all things HR but most enjoys initiatives focused on employee development, DEI, and coaching. Bonnie has HR certifications from SHRM, HRCI, and is a member of ACEC’s national and Seattle DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging) committees. She has been an avid observer of SE3’s contributions since 2017 and joined the team in 2021.



Maryanne Wachter is a software developer and professional engineer. As an engineer, she's worked in Seattle, New York, London, and Los Angeles on landmark transit projects, long-span bridges, and various educational/cultural centers. She currently works as an independent consultant in the AEC industry developing custom software solutions and specializing in data visualization and web applications. She has been a member of the SE3 committee since 2018 and was the 2020 survey development co-lead.
