STRUCTURAL SEISMIC DESIGN MANUALS SERIES
SEAOC Fall Webinar Series: Examples from SEAOC Structural/Seismic Design Manual based on IBC 2021
The SEAOC Structural/Seismic Design Manuals have been updated to the 2021 IBC and will soon be available for purchase. In conjunction with the release of the updated manuals, the SEAOC Continuing Education Committee will be presenting two series of webinars on selected examples from the manuals. The first series will begin on November 16, conclude on December 15, and include presentation of the following examples:
12 noon Wednesday, November 16: Design of Non-Structural Components with Building Accelerations, presented by Jen Gross, Degenkolb Engineers; and Shallow Foundation Design with Liquefiable Soils, presented by Katy Briggs, BASE Design
12 noon Wednesday, November 30: Design of CFS Framed Building on Concrete Podium, presented by Jeff Ellis, Simpson Strong-TiE
12 noon Wednesday, December 7: Wood Diaphragm Design, presented by John Lawson, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
12 noon Thursday, December 15: Braced Frame Base Plate Design, presented by Rachel Cohen & Casey Ching, Forell/Elsesser Engineers
Each presentation will provide examples of IBC 2021 problems that include a discussion of the provisions in the standard, speaking to big-picture concepts and the nuts, bolts and nails of implementation. This seminar is critical to practicing structural engineers, trained designers, building department engineers, plan review agencies, professors and students as you can all learn from these examples of code-compliant designs engineered to achieve good performance under seismic design.
