SEAOSC Group Viewing of Dr. Y. Pearson, PE Webinar and Discussion

The SEAOSC D&I Committee is celebrating Pride Month and hosting and group viewing and discussion of the Peer Group’s DEI training video: JEDI-A Primer for Engineers. No matter where you and your firm are on your Diversity and Inclusivity journey, this training video helps set a tone for the industry. We would love to hear your thoughts on where we stand and how to move the profession forward.

SEAOSC members are invited to join the SEAOSC Group Viewing and Discussion that will be held on June 29, 2023 5:00 pm at Skanska USA. The group viewing will run for one hour, and a 30-minute discussion will follow. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Engineering Inclusive Engineers

The SEAONC Board, in partnership with The PEER Group, is pleased to offer its membership access to two excellent on-demand webinars on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. SEAONC has partnered with The PEER Group since summer of 2022 where Dr. Yvette E. Pearson, PE led a session at the 2022 SE3 Symposium. Dr. Pearson then facilitated two live-virtual training sessions in the Fall of 2022. These workshops were a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn more about JEDI, but are especially valuable for those wondering why we as engineering organizations should care about and focus our thinking on the value JEDI can bring to our firms. Now both workshops will be available on-demand for SEAONC members.

Session 1: Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: A Primer for Engineers (1 hour)

  • Introduction to JEDI: Moving Beyond Diversity
  • Making it Matter: JEDI and Ethics
  • Climate Change: Identifying Factors that are Counter to JEDI
  • Taking Action: Managing Behaviors that are Counter to JEDI

Session 2: Identifying and Disrupting Systemic Inequities in Engineering Organizations (1.5 hours)

  • Getting to the Roots of Systemic Inequities
  • Understanding the System: Biases and Stereotypes
  • Challenging and Changing: Disrupting the System

The PEER Group recommends watching both sessions in order to have the greatest educational benefit. However, watching both sessions is not required and there are still benefits to watching just one of the sessions.

Location: Virtual Workshops
Schedule: Available on-demand until June 30, 2023
Cost: Single Course $60, Both Courses $100
