    VULCAN TO ACQUIRE LEADING BUILDING MATERIALS COMPANY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

    Vulcan Materials Company is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer based in either the Los Angeles area or the San Francisco Bay Area, to lead and manage multiple infrastructure and building projects, including structural steel analysis, design, and construction for heavy industries such as sand and gravel processing plants, plant upgrades, and site improvements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, proven project management abilities, and the skills to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders. This role involves hands-on engineering and oversight from concept through construction, maintaining effective communication with plant operators, ensuring permit compliance, and building strong relationships with local agencies.

    Education. Degree in Engineering required. BS Civil Engineer or BS Structural Engineer preferred.

    Experience. Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, including heavy industrial projects

    License. A PE or EIT license is preferred.

    Functional Knowledge. Must have a thorough knowledge of design specifications, building codes, and the equipment utilized within the company’s plants. Proficiency in engineering software (spreadsheets, word processing, AutoCAD, structural analysis/design tools).

    Communication Skills. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. 

    Required Qualifications:

    • Ability to perform all phases of structural engineering tasks, including investigation, inspection, modeling, analysis, and design of steel and concrete structures. 
    • Experience in preparing building permits and strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and permitting.
    • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Demonstrated project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

    Preferred Experience:

    • Experience with public infrastructure permitting and regulatory compliance.
    • Expertise in concrete foundation and steel structure design and construction.
    • Familiarity with heavy industrial projects, including open-pit mining and equipment load analysis.
    • Field experience with inspections, retrofits, and construction support; bridge construction experience is a plus.
    • Experience with construction management, vibration monitoring, concrete foundation design/analysis, and site grading/drainage design.
